Dale Devereux Barker | type of work | methods and materials | ceramics

I have been labelled as various things; printmaker, enamelist, maker of artists books, but my work in ceramic reveals the eclectic nature of my output and the very idea of not being type-cast and they distill many of the facets found in works in other media.

Certain criteria and possibilities are in play ; a desire to create “The Beautiful Object”, a relish for honesty, a juxtaposition of seemingly disparate subject matter, a respect for the power of the absurd and the humourous. The humble piece of tableware can suddenly become something far more exciting and significant.

As if to qualify these aspirations these often quirky works are produced by the artist in the very traditional environment of the Royal Worcester Porcelain factory.
