It may seem odd that for someone who studied painting at undergraduate level to find that putting paint onto surfaces doesn't occur more regularly. Perhaps this is why I've used the printed medium so much; It's ability to slighty distance one from the surface offers (for me at least) a breathing space, a relief from the historical weight than painting can induce. However, more recently, I've approached painting in the same spirit that I employ to make graphic work; I'm learning from the prints, learning to make my own paintings and not an amalgam of what I think painting ought to be.
